Driver Charged With DUI After Crashing Into Dade County Historic Courthouse

TRENTON, Ga. — A 24-year-old North Carolina man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after crashing a vehicle into the Dade County Historic Courthouse and Museum in downtown Trenton Sunday morning.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened around 9:43 a.m. as the driver approached the roundabout on GA 58, also known as U.S. 11/Main Street, in downtown Trenton.

GSP identified the driver as Jacob Stevenson, 24, of Cary, North Carolina.

Investigators say Stevenson failed to maintain his lane of travel and continued straight, striking the south end of the Dade County Historic Courthouse and Museum.

The impact caused considerable damage to the exterior wall and the area around the elevator entrance on the south side of the historic building.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, and Stevenson was transported by ambulance to Erlanger in Chattanooga. GSP says his injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

According to State Patrol, Stevenson has been charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and other traffic-related charges.

The full extent of the damage to the courthouse has not yet been released.
